“Gila” (Beach House cover) by Bad Passion
Record Store Day (dubbed the best consumerism holiday of the year) lured the bulk of America’s music nerds out of bed at 9am for collectible vinyl like Feist/Mastodon’s aptly named Feistodon. And among the hype surrounding Beach House’s Lazuli, this bad boy came to light.
Bad Passion keeps it simple and slow, giving the Beach House track just a sprinkle of dubstep and an extra pinch of romanticism. Definitely one of the best Beach House covers I’ve heard.
After listening to “Gila”, my Bad Passion curiosity was piqued. The duo make “super slow electronic R&B”, sort of like the type you’d imagine futuristic club-goers slow dancing to in a Bruce Willis movie set in the year 2900.
